Contrary to popular beliefs, this image is of a seal! A lot outside of Newfoundland and Labrador are probably saying "it can't be, it's not cute and cuddly!"Sorry to burst your bubble but it's true. I shot this photo New Years Day in Cape Ray at the seashore here. I dared not get closer because Mr. Contrary Face wanted to be left alone to bask in the January sun . I snapped a few pics and kept my distance knowing he would take a piece of me if i approached to close. This big ugly son of a bitch would never make a poster child for some animal rights group and i doubt if Sir Paul and ladyHeather Mills would want to adopt it. I would give my full years salary to see Lady Heather go and pet it.

Photos of this type will never show on sites seeking donations nor did they show up on last nights peace talks on CNN. A great deal of that show was taken up showing images of seals been clubbed and it's not a pretty site for anyone who has not seen a culling of animals. Im sure if they showed images of cattle, hogs and chickens been processed it would have the same effect on some as those images of the seals.
The McCartney couple said they came for information and i doubt if they got anymore then the mis-information they already brought with them. The premier did give them a Geography lesson when McCartney claimed to be in Newfoundland and was informed that he was actually in Prince Edward Island. I guess the lingering effects of LSD use takes decades to wear off. To me the highlight of the show was this statement by Danny Williams:

WILLIAMS: The other thing that's very relevant here, Larry, is that -- and I don't attribute this to the McCartneys, but this is where I think this is where they're being used. These organizations, the IFAW, Green Peace, PETA raise significant amounts of money. There are hundreds of millions of dollars that are being raised by these organizations. And let me tell you the FBI right now have a file opened in their terrorism division investigating organizations like this, including the PETA organization, from a terrorism perspective. So there are some huge issues here that if we had a couple of hours to go into, I would love to deal with. But what I would like to do...

hopefully we'll hear more of this part in the future and those that rob money from the bleeding hearts who don't know what actually goes on in my province get jail time. After last night im more proud to be from Newfoundland and Labrador then i have ever been before. Looking forward to later in the month or early April for my Seal Flipper meal more then ever!

** Here's an interesting blog on the subject... http://ctcthoughts.blogspot.com/ check it out.

Good Morning Wayne, I watch the Larry King show with Danny and Paul and the wife, and I have to say Danny williams done a great job as oppose to Paul and the wife here is a couple that has all of the money in the and of course they do not have to worry about their lively hood, infact to me they looked like a couple of Boobs.

I wonder if Danny Williams is a relative of mine.

sorry,it's a seal.you have help to prove a point that i tried to make.actualy the correct spelling is (walrus, not wallrus, unless you were trying to spell "wallmart." then i apologise.) i see from your IP that you are from Cambridgeshire ,Sawston in the united kingdom.please drop by again.

I think Danny Williams was a very good speaker on Larry King's show last night. It's unfortunate that he was continuously being butted in on by Ms. Mills McCartney which I thought was rude. Danny didn't butt in on them when they were talking. I think he deserved the common courtesy also. They had their minds made up right from the start and even though they said they were there to gather more information, they were not open to gathering any more information.

So... anonymous Cambridgeshire person (who-thinks-he-knows-what-a-walrus-looks-like), is that all you have to say?

Cuz you just demonstrated what most of the yamyak animal rights people are all about: Cuddly seal pups.

If it was a walrus, which it is not, in effect what you are saying is that a walrus is not cute, therefore, it's okay for humans to utilize it for product?

Your argument is completely lost.

Great post.

I didn't actually get to see the spectacle on CNN but here is a link to the transcript and from reading it I would have to say Mr Williams did a wonderfull job getting the truth out there.

Yes, I have never been in the presence of a seal, walrus or the like but being a Canadian who has lived in remote regions of our country, I have to say Sir Paul looked rather silly. The science of it works for me. The numbers are up and there are good regulations. I would pay real money for Lady Heather to cuddle one of the pictured seal. What a photo op!!!

I e-mailed Premier Williams after the show last night and told him I was very proud of the excellent job he did trying to set the record straight. Overall it was a great show. It had me laughing: when Paul thought he was in Newfoundland, cheering: when Danny brought up the chickens, beef, etc and angry: when that British accent kept cutting in and acting like she was too good to let the politician speak.

Overall, Paul and Heather were reaching out and grabbing at nothing but thin air, because Heather didn't wanna admit she's a sucker for the cute little face of a baby white coat, and Paul didn't wanna let the cat outta the bag that the only reason he was there was because he doesn't find the couch very comfortable as a result of not standin by his misses.

That's my thoughts on it.

Keep Lookin Up

i can always find your posts to be different.it's great to see someone who knows what a seal actually is.after seeing that seal in your post im thinking different of them.your doorstep is on the ocean and some people in cape ray make a living from the sea. to see some rich foreign people come in for a day and try to make decisions about your life must be hard.i didn't see the interview but read it.

Excellent post and great context with the photos!

Thanks for linking to my site. I teach marine management and most students come to the class expecting me to be in favour of the protesters on this particular topic, but once they review all the information, from both sides' perspective, they generally accept this as a viable industry and one which is no more cruel that any other animal slaughter. And you are also correct, global warming is the real threat; too bad the McCartneys weren't rallying around that issue.

The Larry King program had me screaming at the television for a solid hour, but Danny Williams did Newfoundland proud. His portion of the show was at least enjoyable.

Hi there. Thanks for the pleasant comment on my blog. You seem like a really great guy. And, very good use of expletives. Excellent work!

Unfortunately, your Premier will not be able to change popular public opinion on this matter. No matter how much you would like it to be so. The rest of the planet disagrees with you. The blurring of the issues, Lawyer's style double-talk and quaint Maritimer dramatics Mr. Williams performs on American TV won't really help. Because, you are completely outnumbered on this issue. It's simple mathematics. You will eventually have to give up on this dying industry and join the world's modern economy. On the other hand. maybe Newfoundland and P.E.I. can try to separate from the country? Then you can blissfully dream about the good ol' days and enjoy whatever ancient rituals you like. Good luck with the future.

you know what really got me! when heather said we should just focus our attention on exporting snow crab...well now...boiling a crab alive is quite "barbaric and archaic" too isn't it! hmmm...guess she dosen't want to pose with the red little buggers. she tottaly contridicted herself. i hope the millions they were offered to come here was really worth making an ass of themselves on tv for. because not only did they not know where they were they also wouldn't allow our priemer to get a word in; namely heather- i must say paul was considerate and allowed hon danny to speak. i guess cute and cuddly seals are more photogenic. needless to say only 3% of the entire seal pop is used in the hunt. also...anyone else hear the mills mccartney claimed that milk shouldn't be in schools b/c its making children fat!! god now that's RUBBISH!!

Check this out if you think these ARA's are concerned about animals. The only thing they care about is the green back.

http://www.furcommission.com/news/newsC7.htm

or check out activist cash.

When the last president of IFAW retired he was given 1000000$ as a retirement package.
The Humane Society of the United States doesn't give any money to animal shelters nor do they operate any. The majority of their funding goes towards raising more money and publicity.

Thank you for posting that pic. Seals are not cute and cuddley once they are grown. I don't know if anyone else saw the part in the Heather Paul seal video when the cute little seal snarled at her. She recoiled in horror.
